I like NHK's Taiga Drama. From the Taiga Drama Magazine, I sometimes pick up interesting expressions and use them in e-mails to an Igo friend that I have.
Below is a recent example of part of an e-mail to the friend. I know that there are strange expressions and errors in here. Thge grammar has NOT been checked by a native Japanese speaker. But it's OK. I don't mind.
If you too, when you read, pick up new words and use them in your writings, then your vocabulary ability will improve!
Here is what I wrote:
That's a beginners trick, and I fell for it! 千載一遇のことでした。試合の後、僕は絶望に打ちひしがれながら、じっと、碁盤を見つめた。悔しさとも、寂しさともわからぬ不思議な感覚にとらわれていた。まるで本当の屍になったような気がした。ありがたき、幸せに存じまする。それがしのつたなき戦ぶりを、かように重く受け止めてくださり、恐悦至極に存じまする。
日がたっても、僕はひたすらに虚空を眺めていた。なんの展望もないまま日々を送った。また自分の居場所を見失った。不意にどうすることもできない挫折感が僕を襲った。失意の底で立ち尽くした。
Seiji, 若僧が！このわしをたばかりおって。。。うぬぼれるな。侮りおって、失望も知らぬSeijiが！
いや、実はそれがしの負けにござりまする。こたびの勝ち戦、祝着至極に存じまする。
今度は頑張ります。むやみに戦ってはならぬ。手出し無用！

Where is the best place you ever went?
I really like the remote islands of Okinawa. I have gone there a few times, because I like snorkeling. I and my kid have snorkeled in the Kerama Islands (about 1 hour by boat from Naha) and in Ishigaki.
In Kerama last spring a 2-meter shark was 5 meters in front of us, heading right toward us! It was scary! Luckily, he (or she) became afraid of us, and turned away. Also in Kerama we have seen clown fish (from the movie Nemo) and large squid.
In Ishigaki we saw giant mantas while snorkeling. They are very big and swim majestically.
